Biography
I am a 400 level Nursing Science student of the University of Port Harcourt from Abia State and a Registered Nurse with a strong passion for service, leadership, advocacy, and inclusive representation. I have participated in student leadership and have served in various capacities, including as a Senator representing the Nursing Faculty, Zone A, and Coordinator of the Senate Committee on Health. Through these experiences, i have developed a strong commitment to listening to students, advocating for their needs, and promoting effective representation. I believe that leadership is not merely a position, but a responsibility to serve, represent, and make a meaningful difference.
Manifesto
MANIFESTO SEN. CHINEDU GOSPEL CHIDIEBUBE(RN) Candidate for Director of Students with Special Needs Student’s Union Government, University of Port Harcourt THEME “From Representation to Inclusion; From Inclusion to Empowerment.” PREAMBLE The strength of a university is not measured only by its academic excellence, infrastructure, or achievements, but also by how well it recognizes, accommodates, and empowers every member of its community. My aspiration for the office of Director of Students with Special Needs is founded on a simple principle: every student deserves to be seen, heard, respected, represented, and given a fair opportunity to thrive. I am not presenting a manifesto built on unrealistic promises. I am presenting a practical agenda for advocacy, accessibility, welfare, empowerment, and meaningful representation. If entrusted with your mandate, I will work to build an office that listens, advocates, connects, and delivers. MY VISION To promote a more inclusive University of Port Harcourt where students with special needs can access education, participate fully in university life, and pursue their ambitions with dignity and equal opportunity. MY MISSION To provide effective representation, advocate for accessibility and reasonable support, promote awareness and inclusion, and create meaningful opportunities for the academic, social, and personal development of students with special needs. THE FIVE PILLARS OF THE AGENDA 1. IDENTIFICATION, REGISTRATION & NEEDS ASSESSMENT “Knowing Who We Serve” Effective representation begins with understanding the people we represent. I will advocate for the establishment of a Students with Special Needs Identification and Needs Assessment Committee to coordinate a voluntary, respectful, and confidential identification exercise across faculties, departments, hostels, and other areas of the University. The initiative will help us: Identify students who may require support. Understand their specific academic, accessibility, communication, and welfare needs. Maintain an appropriate and confidential register. Identify recurring challenges requiring institutional intervention. Provide a reliable foundation for planning and advocacy. Identify. Listen. Assess. Advocate. Act. 2. ACCESSIBILITY & AN INCLUSIVE CAMPUS “Removing Barriers” Inclusion cannot exist where physical and environmental barriers prevent students from participating fully. I will advocate for an Accessibility Audit of the University, identifying barriers affecting students with special needs and presenting practical recommendations to relevant authorities. My focus will include: Accessible lecture venues and walkways. Ramps, toilets, hostels, and other facilities where necessary. Better accessibility at major student events. Digital accessibility and accessible information materials. The goal is simple: a campus where accessibility is considered, not forgotten. 3. ACADEMIC INCLUSION & SUPPORT “Equal Opportunity to Learn” Every student deserves a fair opportunity to succeed academically. I will establish an Academic Support & Accommodation Advocacy Initiative through which students can communicate academic barriers and receive appropriate guidance and advocacy. This will include: Advocacy for reasonable academic accommodations where applicable. Promotion of accessible learning materials. A peer academic support and mentorship network. Improved communication between affected students and relevant university structures. Inclusion is not preferential treatment; it is creating a fair opportunity to succeed. 4. WELFARE, REPRESENTATION & ADVOCACY “No Student Left Unheard” Representation must go beyond occupying an office. I will establish a Special Needs Welfare Desk to provide a reliable channel for students to communicate concerns relating to welfare, accommodation, accessibility, discrimination, academic difficulties, and other challenges. The office will also: Conduct periodic consultations with students. Maintain appropriate feedback channels. Refer matters requiring professional or institutional intervention to the appropriate authorities. Advocate for the interests of students with special needs within the SUG and relevant university structures. “Nothing About Us Without Us.” Students should be consulted on issues that directly affect them. 5. EMPOWERMENT, AWARENESS & OPPORTUNITIES “Beyond Inclusion” Students with special needs should not only be accommodated; they should be empowered to excel. I will promote initiatives focused on: UNIPORT Inclusion & Awareness Week A platform for education, advocacy, dialogue, and disability awareness. Skills & Empowerment Programmes Connecting students with opportunities in entrepreneurship, digital skills, vocational development, and other areas. Mentorship & Opportunity Network Connecting students with professionals, alumni, senior students, scholarships, internships, competitions, and other opportunities. Talent & Achievement Showcase Creating opportunities for students with special needs to showcase their talents, businesses, innovations, academic achievements, arts, and sports. Changing the narrative from limitation to possibility. MY FLAGSHIP INITIATIVES PROJECT IDENTIFY A structured identification and needs-assessment initiative to understand the population and challenges of students with special needs across campus. PROJECT ACCESS An accessibility audit and advocacy programme aimed at identifying and addressing barriers across the University. ACCESS+ An academic support, mentorship, and accommodation advocacy network. UNIPORT INCLUSION WEEK A dedicated platform for awareness, dialogue, advocacy, empowerment, and celebration of abilities. ABILITY TO EXCEL A skills, mentorship, talent, and opportunity initiative designed to promote empowerment beyond the classroom. MY COMMITMENT If entrusted with your mandate, I will be guided by five principles: LISTEN — because representation begins with understanding. ADVOCATE — because concerns must be taken to the right authorities. CONNECT — because meaningful solutions require collaboration. EMPOWER — because inclusion should create opportunities, not dependency. DELIVER — because leadership should be measured by impact. I will not promise what lies beyond the powers of the office. I will, however, commit myself to using the available structures, partnerships, advocacy, and influence of the office to pursue practical solutions. THE UNIVERSITY WE ENVISION A University of Port Harcourt where: Every student can be seen. Every voice can be heard. Every ability can be valued. Every barrier can be challenged. And every student has the opportunity to thrive. CONCLUSION This election is not simply about occupying an office. It is about choosing the kind of representation students with special needs deserve. I seek your mandate not to speak over students, but to listen to them. Not to make empty promises, but to pursue practical solutions. Not merely to create awareness, but to build a culture of inclusion and empowerment. Together, we can move: FROM REPRESENTATION TO INCLUSION. FROM INCLUSION TO EMPOWERMENT. SEN. CHINEDU GOSPEL CHIDIEBUBE(RN) For Director of Students with Special Needs Students’ Union Government, University of Port Harcourt “Every Student. Every Ability. Every Opportunity.”
