Manifesto

MANIFESTO FOR THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF JUDGE, STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT, UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT* *By Clement Hope Onyinyechi* Fellow Unique UNIPORT Students, I, *Clement Hope Onyinyechi* of the Department of Health Promotion Environmental And Safety Education, Faculty of Education, declare my ambition to serve as Chief Judge of our great Student Union Government. The SUG Judiciary should be the last hope of the common student, but today many students have lost faith in it. Justice is delayed, the constitution is often bent to favour the powerful, and equality is misinterpreted. I am contesting to change that narrative. My philosophy is simple: *Equity over Equality, Fairness over Favoritism.* Equality gives everyone the same thing, but Equity gives everyone what they deserve. I will not preside over a court that treats serious constitutional breaches with a slap on the wrist. I will ensure fairness, not favoritism for friends of the executive or the legislature. *MY 5-POINT AGENDA FOR A JUST JUDICIARY:* *1. Upholding the Constitution:* Total, unbiased interpretation and defense of the SUG Constitution. No sacred cows. The law will be supreme. *2. Speedy Dispensation of Justice:* I will introduce a 72-hour maximum timeline for hearing and judgment on all cases brought before the SUG court. Justice delayed is justice denied. *3. Judicial Transparency and Accessibility:* Our court sittings and judgments will be open and published. Every student will have easy access to file a case and understand their rights. *4. Capacity Building:* Training and retraining for all judicial officers and court clerks to ensure competence and professionalism. *5. Alternative Dispute Resolution:* Setting up a Student Mediation Center to resolve minor student-to-student disputes amicably without lengthy court processes. If you want a judiciary that is fearless, impartial, and credible, vote for me. Let us build a court where justice truly lives. *Clement Hope Onyinyechi* Chief Judge Aspirant SUG Uniport
