Biography

I am Daniel Duke, from Bukuma, Degema LGA, Rivers State. My passion for sports goes beyond participation; it is rooted in service, leadership, and creating opportunities for students to thrive. Through my journey in student sports, I have gained the experience and perspective needed to contribute meaningfully to the growth of Uniport sports.

Manifesto

MANIFESTO DANIEL DUKE (DANNYHOPE) Aspirant For SUG Director of Sports Dear Great Nigerian Students, The University of Port Harcourt has always been a place where talent meets opportunity. In our sporting community, we have witnessed students discover their abilities, represent their faculties with pride, compete at the highest level and, in the process, contribute to the rich sporting identity of our institution. As we look towards the future, the responsibility before us is not to abandon what has been built, but to strengthen it, improve it and take it to greater heights. My decision to contest for the office of SUG Director of Sports is therefore not simply about seeking a position. It is about offering myself for service in an area where I have gained experience, developed relationships and, most importantly, discovered a genuine passion for the growth and welfare of student athletes. As a Faculty Director of Sports (2024/2025), Chairman of the Faculty Directors of Sports Forum (2024/2025), Vice Chairman to the SUG Director of Sports (2025/2026), Coordinator of the Uniport Champions League 2.0 and Coordinator of the Uniport Freshers’ Cup 2.0, I have had the opportunity to work closely with athletes, faculty sports directors, teams and other stakeholders within the sporting community. These experiences have taught me that effective sports administration is not only about organising competitions. It is about people. It is about the student who has a talent but needs an opportunity. It is about the athlete who needs proper support to perform at their best. It is about the team that deserves to be properly represented. It is about the faculty that wants a stronger sporting culture. And it is about every student who simply wants to participate, connect and enjoy the beautiful experience that sports provides. MY VISION My vision is to contribute to a sporting system that is more organized, inclusive, competitive, accessible and responsive to the needs of students and athletes. I believe that the Directorate of Sports should be a bridge between the students and the opportunities that sports provides. It should create an environment where talent is encouraged, participation is promoted and excellence is recognized. STRENGTHENING EXISTING SPORTING STRUCTURES We will build on the structures and initiatives that have already contributed to the development of Uniport Sports. The objective is not to discard what works, but to identify what can be improved, strengthen existing systems and introduce practical ideas where necessary. Progress should be continuous. MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS Sports should provide opportunities beyond the already established athletes and teams. We will promote sporting activities that encourage wider student participation and create avenues for students to discover and develop their talents across different sporting disciplines. The goal is simple: more students should have an opportunity to be part of Uniport Sports. RECOGNITION OF SPORTING EXCELLENCE Behind every sporting achievement are students who have invested their time, energy and commitment. We will encourage a culture where sporting achievements and outstanding performances are properly recognised and celebrated. Our athletes should know that their efforts matter and that representing Uniport is something worth being proud of. INCLUSIVITY AND SPORTING UNITY Sports has the power to bring students together beyond faculty, department, level or background. We will promote a sporting culture that encourages unity, friendship, healthy competition and mutual respect. One Uniport. One sporting community. One shared legacy. CONTINUITY WITH PURPOSE We cannot talk about the future of Uniport Sports without acknowledging the work that has already been done. There is a legacy to preserve, but there is also room to improve. My commitment is to continue the good work, learn from previous experiences, address areas that require attention and build structures that can serve students beyond one administration. This is the kind of continuity I believe in—not continuity for its own sake, but continuity that produces measurable progress. A COMMITMENT TO SERVICE I am not presenting myself as someone who has all the answers. I am presenting myself as someone with experience, willingness to listen, readiness to serve and the determination to work with others. The development of Uniport Sports cannot be achieved by one person. It requires athletes, faculty sports directors, teams, sports enthusiasts, administrators and students working together. That is why this campaign is not simply DannyHope's campaign. It is a call for everyone who believes that Uniport Sports can do more, reach further and achieve greater things. We have inherited a legacy. Let us protect it. Let us improve it. Let us expand it. Let us pass on an even stronger legacy to the next generation. The Legacy Continues. The Standard Rises. The Future Is Ours To Build. Vote for Experience, Vote for Continuity, Vote for the Future of Uniport Sports.
