Beyond academics, I enjoy entrepreneurship, and financial trading. I believe leadership is about service, accountability, representation, and creating real impact. MANIFESTO EMMANUEL BRIGHT CHINONYE Candidate for Director of Finance / Financial Secretary Student Union Government, University of Port Harcourt INTRODUCTION Greatest Nigerian Students, I, Emmanuel Bright Chinonye, a student of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, humbly present myself to serve as your Director of Finance/Financial Secretary in the forthcoming Student Union Government administration. I am offering myself for this position with a strong sense of responsibility, integrity, accountability, and commitment to service. I believe that effective financial leadership is not merely about keeping records; it is about ensuring that every resource entrusted to the Student Union is properly accounted for, responsibly managed, and directed toward the collective interests of students. If given the opportunity to serve, I will bring transparency, financial discipline, accessibility, and innovation to the office, while working collaboratively with the SUG executive, representatives, and the entire student body. CORE OBJECTIVES 1. Transparent Financial Record-Keeping - Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date records of all SUG income and expenditure. - Promote proper documentation of financial transactions. - Encourage accessible and understandable financial records in line with the provisions of the SUG constitution. 2. Accountability and Regular Financial Reporting - Provide timely financial updates to the appropriate SUG authorities. - Encourage clear financial reporting during congresses and general meetings. - Ensure that students are better informed about the financial activities of their Union. 3. Strengthening Revenue Collection and Tracking - Promote an efficient and accountable system for the collection and documentation of approved dues, levies, and other legitimate revenues. - Work closely with faculty representatives, departmental representatives, and relevant SUG officers to improve coordination. - Promote effective communication and awareness concerning approved financial obligations. 4. Financial Prudence and Responsible Spending - Ensure that SUG expenditures are properly documented and aligned with approved budgets. - Promote responsible spending and discourage financial waste and unnecessary expenditure. - Protect the integrity of students' funds through strict adherence to financial procedures and constitutional provisions. 5. Digitalization of Financial Processes - Advocate for the gradual digitalization of financial records and reporting where practicable. - Encourage the use of organized digital systems for tracking income, expenditure, and approved financial obligations. - Reduce avoidable errors and improve efficiency through better financial documentation. 6. Financial Planning and Resource Mobilization - Work with the SUG executive to explore legitimate and sustainable avenues for generating additional resources for student-oriented projects. - Support initiatives that can improve the financial capacity of the Union without placing unnecessary burdens on students. - Encourage proper budgeting and financial planning before major SUG programmes and projects. 7. Collaborative and Accessible Leadership - Work hand-in-hand with the President, Treasurer, Secretary-General, and other members of the SUG executive. - Maintain an open and approachable office where students can seek clarification on relevant financial matters. - Encourage cooperation between the SUG, faculty representatives, departmental representatives, and other stakeholders. MY COMMITMENT If elected, I will not see the office of the Director of Finance/Financial Secretary as a position of privilege, but as a position of responsibility and service. I will uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, prudence, integrity, and responsible financial management. I will also remain committed to protecting the interests of Great Nigerian Students and ensuring that the financial affairs of the Union are handled with the seriousness they deserve.
