Manifesto
UNIVERSITY OF PORT-HARCOURT Student Union Government (SUG) MANIFESTO COMR. GRATEFUL KUNENU BARINADUM Candidate for SUG DIRECTOR OF WELFARE First let take a look what the word welfare means.. Welfare is the general state of health or degree of success of a person or group of person, in regard to health, safety, happiness and comfortability. “A VOICE THAT LISTENS. A LEADER THAT ACTS.” My dear students, Leadership is not about having a title; it is about having the courage to serve, the willingness to listen, and the commitment to act. As your candidate for SUG Director of Welfare, my vision is to build a welfare system that is accessible, responsive, transparent, inclusive, and genuinely focused on the needs of students. 1. OPEN DOOR WELFARE SYSTEM I will promote an open and accessible welfare office where every student can confidently present their challenges without fear of being ignored or neglected. 2 Welfare Programs & Empowerment I will support initiatives that promote student development, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, career awareness, and opportunities that can improve students’ overall well-being. 3 HOSTEL & LIVING CONDITIONS I will advocate for better hostel conditions, improved sanitation, adequate water supply, electricity, security, and other basic facilities that contribute to students' well-being. 4 EMERGENCY WELFARE INTERVENTION I will advocate for a welfare intervention system to support students facing genuine emergencies and difficult circumstances, while working with relevant stakeholders for sustainable solutions. 5 HEALTH & WELLNESS AWARENESS I will encourage programmes that promote students' physical, emotional, and general well-being, while ensuring students know where and how to seek appropriate help when necessary. 5. STUDENTS' RIGHTS & ADVOCACY I will ensure that students are better informed about their rights, responsibilities, available opportunities, and welfare resources within the University. 6. WELFARE FOR ALL My welfare agenda will not be based on friendship, faculty, department, religion, background, or personal connections. Every student deserves to be heard. Every student deserves dignity. Every student deserves representation. 7 REGULAR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT I will maintain regular interaction with students across faculties, departments, hostels, and student communities to identify challenges early and communicate them appropriately. 8. TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY I will make accountability a major principle of my administration. Students deserve to know what their representatives are doing, what challenges exist, and what progress is being made. MY VISION A university community where no student feels forgotten, unheard, or helpless when facing a genuine welfare challenge. MY MISSION To listen without discrimination, represent without fear, serve without selfishness, and advocate without compromise. COMR. GRATEFUL KUNENU BARINADUM FOR SUG DIRECTOR OF WELFARE “A VOICE THAT LISTENS. A LEADER THAT ACTS.”
