Manifesto
THE CHERYL MANIFESTO NWAFOR PRECIOUS UCHENNA (CHERYL) ASPIRANT FOR SUG TREASURER, UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT NOT JUST A TREASURER! BUT A VOICE FOR YOUR FUNDS! --- MY WHY The office of the Treasurer is an office of trust, stewardship and accountability. The Students' Union Constitution places significant financial responsibilities on the Treasurer, including receiving Union monies, ensuring their timely deposit, disbursing approved expenditure, maintaining the Union's imprest as approved, safeguarding relevant financial documents, and submitting receipts, payment vouchers and account balances to the Executive Council monthly. I am seeking this office because I understand that being entrusted with Union resources is not a privilege to be taken lightly; it is a responsibility to be carried with integrity. My vision is to build a stronger bridge between students and their funds through transparency, accountability and responsible financial management. --- THE CHERYL STANDARD 01 — TRANSPARENCY Clear. Responsible. Accountable. I will support appropriate and responsible financial transparency within the framework of the Students' Union Constitution and applicable procedures. This means promoting proper documentation, responsible reporting and appropriate access to approved financial information. Transparency should inform students without compromising the confidentiality of individual financial transactions. --- 02 — ACCOUNTABILITY Every responsibility must answer to the people. I will take seriously the constitutional responsibility to maintain proper financial records and submit the required receipts, payment vouchers and account balances to the appropriate Union structures. I will also support the proper auditing and accountability mechanisms provided by the Constitution. Accountability is not something we promise during elections; it is something we practise in office. --- 03 — RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP EVERY KOBO COUNTS. Union resources belong to the Union and must be managed with prudence and purpose. I will uphold responsible handling of Union funds and support expenditure that is properly approved and aligned with the Union's budget and student-centred objectives. Every kobo received. Every kobo disbursed. Every responsibility entrusted. It all counts. --- 04 — FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE Proper process. Proper records. Proper responsibility. I will commit myself to following the financial procedures established by the Students' Union Constitution. This includes supporting timely deposits of Union monies, proper documentation of financial transactions and adherence to the approved processes governing Union expenditure. Good financial management begins with discipline. --- 05 — STUDENT ACCESS & FINANCIAL AWARENESS Students deserve to understand. The Constitution recognises the right of Union members to seek information from the arms of the Union and provides for approved annual budgets to be made available to members upon request. I will encourage a culture where relevant financial information is communicated in a way that is clear, responsible and accessible, while respecting proper procedures and confidentiality. My goal is not to expose private transactions. My goal is to help build a Union where students can ask questions, seek clarification and understand the financial direction of their Union. --- 06 — PROPER HANDOVER & CONTINUITY A good administration should leave something useful behind. I believe financial stewardship should extend beyond one tenure. I will support proper preservation and organisation of financial records and documents so that the next administration can receive the office with clarity and continuity. We should build systems, not just occupy offices. --- MY VISION BUILDING A STRONGER BRIDGE BETWEEN STUDENTS AND THEIR FUNDS I envision a Treasurer's office that is: TRANSPARENT — in its appropriate communication. ACCOUNTABLE — in its financial responsibilities. RESPONSIBLE — in the management of Union resources. ACCESSIBLE — to students seeking appropriate information. STUDENT-CENTRED — in its approach to service. My vision is not to operate outside the Constitution. My vision is to work within the Constitution and use the responsibilities of the office to serve students better. --- WHAT I AM NOT PROMISING I am not here to make unrealistic promises. I cannot single-handedly control every financial decision of the Students' Union. The Constitution establishes financial responsibilities across different officers and structures, including the Treasurer, Director of Finance, Executive Council, Senate and relevant approval and audit mechanisms. What I can promise is this: I WILL KNOW MY RESPONSIBILITY. I WILL RESPECT THE PROCESS. I WILL KEEP ACCOUNTABILITY AT THE HEART OF MY SERVICE. --- MY PLEDGE TO YOU If entrusted with this office, I will carry your trust with the seriousness it deserves. I will strive to serve with: INTEGRITY. TRANSPARENCY. ACCOUNTABILITY. PRUDENCE. RESPONSIBILITY. Because the office is not about Precious. It is about the responsibility that comes with your trust. --- TO THE GREAT STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT You deserve leadership that understands that public resources require public responsibility. You deserve officers who understand the limits of their offices as well as the responsibilities attached to them. And you deserve a Treasurer who will approach the office with discipline, integrity and a genuine commitment to service. I am Comrade Nwafor Precious Uchenna (Cheryl). I am asking for your trust. I am ready to accept the responsibility. NOT JUST A TREASURER! BUT A VOICE FOR YOUR FUNDS! #EveryKoboCounts #CherylForTreasurer
