Manifesto
MANIFESTO FOR THE OFFICE OF THE SUG JUDGE Candidate: Okorourhie Ufuoma Efe Position: SUG Judge Institution: University of Port Harcourt “Justice, Integrity, Accountability — A Judiciary You Can Trust.” Fellow students of the University of Port Harcourt, I stand before you with humility, courage, and a deep sense of responsibility as I present myself as a candidate for the office of SUG Judge in the forthcoming Student Union Government election. My aspiration is not driven by the title or prestige attached to the office. It is driven by a genuine desire to contribute to a student union where justice is respected, rights are protected, disputes are fairly resolved, and every student has confidence in the judicial system of our union. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man, and within our students’ union, the SUG Judiciary must remain a place where every student can seek justice without fear, favour, intimidation, or discrimination. MY VISION My vision is to build a fair, independent, accessible, transparent, and credible SUG Judiciary that every student can trust. I believe that justice should never depend on who you know, the faculty you belong to, your social status, or the position you occupy. Before the law and the constitution of our union, every student deserves equal treatment. If elected, I will dedicate myself to upholding the constitution of the Student Union Government and ensuring that the judicial arm remains independent and committed to the principles of fairness and justice. MY AGENDA 1. Justice Without Fear or Favour I will promote a judicial system where cases are handled based on facts, evidence, the constitution, and applicable rules—not friendship, pressure, popularity, or political influence. Every student who comes before the SUG Judiciary deserves to be heard and treated with dignity. 2. Protection of Students’ Rights The rights of students must not only exist on paper; they must be respected and protected in practice. I will support an SUG Judiciary that is willing to defend the constitutional rights of students and provide a credible avenue for students to seek redress whenever they believe their rights have been violated. 3. Transparency and Accountability Justice must not only be done; students must also have confidence that justice is being done. I will encourage transparency in judicial proceedings within the limits permitted by the constitution and relevant rules. Decisions must be based on clear legal principles, properly considered facts, and established procedures. 4. Accessible Judiciary The SUG Judiciary should not feel distant or unreachable to the average student. I will work toward creating better awareness of the judicial processes available to students, including how students can present petitions, seek redress, understand their rights, and participate appropriately in proceedings. 5. Respect for Due Process Due process is the foundation of every credible judicial system. No student should be condemned without being given a fair opportunity to present their case. I will uphold the principles of fair hearing, impartiality, and procedural justice in every matter brought before the court. 6. Peaceful Conflict Resolution Not every disagreement needs to become a prolonged conflict. Where appropriate and within the powers of the judiciary, I will support mechanisms that encourage peaceful resolution of disputes while ensuring that justice and the provisions of the constitution are not compromised. MY COMMITMENT TO YOU Fellow GreatMinds, I am not promising a perfect judiciary because perfection is an ideal we constantly strive toward. What I am promising is commitment, fairness, courage, integrity, and service. I will not allow personal relationships to determine justice. I will not allow intimidation to influence my judgment. I will not trade the confidence of the students for personal gain. The office of the SUG Judge must be an office of responsibility, not superiority. A judge is not above the students; a judge is entrusted by the students to protect the principles upon which justice stands. I therefore pledge to approach every responsibility with an open mind and a clear conscience. I will listen before judging. I will study before deciding. I will respect the constitution. I will uphold fair hearing. I will protect the integrity of the judiciary. And above all, I will serve justice. A CALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT My dear colleagues, this election is more than a contest for positions. It is an opportunity to choose the kind of Student Union Government we want. I am asking for your support, your trust, and your vote—not because I claim to know everything, but because I am ready to learn, serve, and stand firmly for what is right. Together, we can build a SUG Judiciary where students are heard, rights are respected, disputes are fairly determined, and justice is not a privilege reserved for the powerful. Let us choose integrity over influence, justice over favouritism, fairness over bias, and service over self-interest. On election day, I humbly ask you to vote: OKOROURHIE U. U. EFE FOR SUG JUDGE Justice. Integrity. Fairness. Accountability. Together, let us build a judiciary we can trust. Thank you, and may the best interest of the students always prevail.
